31 NIGHTS OF HALLOWEEN : NIGHT 2 : NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

Todays choice was a tough one, mainly because my original Day 2 film is one I've decided to save for a very specific date, more on that later.

However that left me with a gap to fill, So I decided to swap it out with another classic, Night Of The Living Dead. You like zombies? You watch The Walking Dead? You owe it all to this. Fair there were films that dealt with zombies of a traditional nature that came before, but these were zombies for a new generation. This was the dawn of the 'Flesh Eater'.

An interesting side note, is that the film was originally called 'Night Of The Flesh Eaters', and its last minute name change to 'Living Dead' would cost filmmaker George A Romero the copyright to the title . The film now resides in the public domain which means you can watch it for free and get it on DVD through about 2 dozen distributors.

There is no denying the films absolute power in its ability to shock and it also serves as an amazing social commentary for 1960's America and features Horrors first Black protagonist in the form of Duane Jones. The film was a huge independent hit that opened the door for years to come for other indies like Halloween, Friday The 13th and of course it began the zombie craze that stills sees a 'die' hard following today.

The film spawned a series of Sequels including Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead, Land of The Dead, Diary Of The Dead and Survival Of The Dead being the canon ones (Also the 1990 remake in an attempt to get the rights back). The film has also spawned hundreds of imitations, reworkings and reimaginings all of which pale in comparison to the one that started it all.

Because it public domain you can watch the whole thing for FREE below.

See you tomorrow.
