31 NIGHTS OF HALLOWEEN : NIGHT 6 : HOUSE OF EVIL

House Of Evil (1983) is a pretty obscure title, to those not versed in thier horror anyway, but it's is one of my favourite horror films of all time. I own about 5 different copies of it under various titles. It's more commonly known as House On Sorority Row, but I first saw it on VHS under the moniker House Of Evil. A surprisingly effective slasher, it wasn't till years later that I picked up  a copy of Sorority Row only to discover that it was the same film. Since then it has become one of those films that I love introducing people to.

A group of Sorority girls at the end of their college lives, decide to have one last blow out, the only problem is thier strict, stuck up den mother. After embarrassing one of the girls during coitus, she seeks revenge and one things leads to another leaving the girls with the dead body of thier den mother mere hours before thier huge party. Hiding the body they plan to dispose of it afterwards, but as the night goes on the girls get picked off one by one. Is it the den mother, back from the grave? Or something much worse?

The answer will surprise you, but that's the fun of the film. Figuring it out, the final answer is there, but it still comes across abstract enough to leave you feeling uncertain. It a Halloween rip off, yeah, but it a fucking good one. The final confrontation with the killer holds one of the single creepiest moments I've ever seen in a horror film.

The film is pretty much stand alone, there was a remake in 2010 by the name Soroity Row, that dismissed the entire plot and went with its own I Know What You Did Last Summer angle, that left a bad taste in the mouths of fans of the original. It's a great little movie that worth tracking down and watching with a few beers.

See you tomorrow.
